Brilliant British Bacon and Cheddar
Denhay Farm is based in West Dorset in the mild climate of the Marshwood Vale and we have been making Farmhouse Cheddar here with our own milk since 1959. The farm is in an area ideal for grass growing and we also grow maize, a high energy cow food, for feeding to our cows in the winter when they are housed inside. The muck from the cows is returned to the land for the grass and maize to grow. Our Cheddar is the traditional savoury flavoured cheddar made to the authentic recipe.
For many years we had our own pigs and developed a recipe for producing consistent dry cured bacon. We have closed our piggeries but continue to produced Denhay Dry Cured bacon using pork from outdoor bred British herds. The bacon is consistent and flavoursome, and as there is no water added, no white stuff comes out when you cook it.
Awards
We have won over 75 awards for our bacon since we started production in 1994 including 3rd overall in the Great Taste Awards in 2006 and Champion at the Taste of the West Awards. We have won prizes at virtually every cheese show we have entered over many years and took Best Traditional Cheddar in the World Cheese Awards 2009.
