Cockles Lochgilphead, Argyll

Purveyors of Fresh Fish and Fine Foods

Owner, Kay Hunter, acquired Cockles in 2006. Her interest in food led to her obtaining a Diploma at London’s Cordon Bleu Cookery School in the 1970s. Being multi-lingual, Kay can be heard helping foreign visitors in their own language, most notably French, German and sometimes Italian.

Kay aims to fill a niche in the market with quality local, fresh and organic produce and an extensive range of more unusual and specialist items such as squid pasta or amchoor. Customer satisfaction is paramount and Kay provides a personal service offering advice on the foods she stocks.

Apart from being the only local fish shop (you must try the kippers!), Cockles has an enviable selection of fine cheeses and chocolates, locally smoked fish and meats and a wide range of delicacies including foie gras, olives and handmade pâtés. If you’re looking for that elusive culinary ingredient or something a little bit different try Cockles. Gift vouchers and bespoke hampers are available all year round.
